Install GPS Navigation

GPS navigation or known as satellite navigation is especially useful if you travel to unfamiliar places. Not only it gives you better confidence of where you are heading, it also helps you to save fuel by locating the shortest and fastest routes. Instead of going around in circles wasting time and fuel, you can be sure of getting there without raising a sweat.

There are many types of GPS navigation system. Some are portable allowing you to move them from different cars; useful if you use rented cars. Built in units look better and can be hidden from view of car thives but tend to be more expensive. They usually need professional installation unless you are a seasoned DIY person.

Well known GPS navigation systems include Garmin and Magellan. Others include GPS navigation from Delphi, Sony, Mio, Navman and others. For portable units, the thing to look out for is battery life, vehicle power adapter, convenience of dashboard mounting and screen size.

For built in units, the main criteria would be screen size, advanced features like voice commands, graphical directions and alternative routes. Ease of use should also be a consideration especially when you want to operate the unit while driving. If you have difficulties visualizing maps from a bird’s eye view, consider one that give maps in 3D like graphics like the Navman F20 one shown below.
