In 1957, the town of Tulsa buried a a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere V-8 Sport Coupe with Sportone as part of a time capsule. Now 50 years later, they unearth the time capsule hoping to find a pristine still usable Belvedere together with a 5 gallon can of gasoline and a jar of Oklahoma crude oil. In the glove box, fourteen bobby pins, a ladies compact plastic rain cap, several combs, a tube of lipstick, pack of gum, facial tissues $2.73 in bills and coins and a pack of cigarettes with matches – items that might have been found in a woman’s purse in the 1950′s.
What the people hope to see

But it is not to be. When the time capsule was opened, workers found the concrete bunker in about 4 feet of muddy water. Apparently, water had seepped in over the years and damaged the car. Evidence that water level has been as high as the top of the bunker!
The Belvedere was buried as part of a competition to see who can guess the population of Tulsa in 2007. The closest guess will be the winner of the car. I think if they can find the winner, he or she will be disappointed to know that instead of a car that is a classic today, they will get a rust bucket instead.
What they found

Lesson here. Don’t go burying a brand new car!
