All of us at one time or another have tried ringtones for our mobile phones. It all started in the days when most phones have a limited choice of ringtones and everybody started to reach for their when a call come in. Now, I reckon, we are possibly at the verge of a new industry, one to create sound and another to actively block it.

Car tones for electric cars. With electric motors being so quiet, car makers are thinking of adding some noise to make sure pedestrians know what’s coming down the road. There are detractors claiming there’s already too much noise, what more to add to the din.

As you can see from the comment, someone wanted the sound of a Merlin V-12 engine the P-51 Mustang while another the old VW. I won’t be surprised to hear of lawn movers, M1 tanks and even the jet turbines of Airwolf next.

Active noise cancelling headphones anyone?
