Nissan Tiida Based EV
Nissan showcased its 2010 EV, that is short for electric vehicle based on the popular Tiida (or also known as the Versa or Latio in certain markets). Initially available in US in Tennessee, where the car will be manufactured.
The prototype is powered by Nissan developed electric motors with a rated 80kW (107hp), has a cruising range of 100 miles (160 km) between charges and a top speed of around 87mph (140 km/h). The lithium-ion battery pack fits into the floor of the car thus providing improved stability, comfort and space.
According to Nissan top official the advantages are clear:-
- maintenance costs will be about $1,350 lower annually for the pure electric vehicle than a conventional car.
- the estimated the cost to “fill the tank” in the Tennessee Valley is at about 90 cents,
- it will take about four to eight hours to do so at a residence.
- plans are to get that time frame down to four hours in 2012.
Finally after all the go no go, at least this EV is ready for production and sales. No longer something iffy. That’s great news.
