Self Parking Car

Auto parking cars will be the next rage. Right up there with adaptive cruise control, car manufacturers are starting to out in auto park features in their top end models. Not too long ago, parking sensors were put into rear bumpers and later, front bumpers of large cars and SUV. Parking sensors were especially useful when parallel parking. They still relies on the driver to manually park his or her car. And in a really tight spot, to wriggle your car can be a tiring affair even with power steering. It can be extra stressful if there people watching if you are going to scratch the vehicle behind or in front of you.

With auto parking, you can rest easy. All you have to do is to switch the system on as you aproached your desired parking. The system automatically measures the space as well as kerb height. Just stop the car ahead of the parking spot you want. Engange reverse and take your hands off. Ride the brakes to keep the speed down and voila, a perfectly parallel parked car.

At the moment, Hella and Lexus have developed their own system, each with slight differences. Hella’s systems is a bit more advanced that it can judge if the space is big enough for the car whereas the Lexus system doesn’t. The technology will still need a bit of fine tuning to make it really reliable and safe in case someone suddenly runs behind a car that is being self parked.
