They Make Cars For Old People!
Yes, the cat is out of the bag. Nissan makes cars for old people! What is easy easier, is to make cars for geeks, with controls that looks like they got lifted out of a F16 jet fighter with buttons and menu’s everywhere. See the previous post on the Nissan GT-R and you get the picture.
What is tough is making the control so intuitive even grandpa can get used to driving the car safely. What design team aims to
achieve is:
Even once behind the wheel, the interior layout feels so logical and familiar it takes a moment to feel surprised by what you find.
“That’s exactly the reaction we want,” Watanabe says. “What you see as you get behind the wheel should be instantly understandable and reassuring. You shouldn’t need a manual to know what to do next.”
A young driver usually have no problems but since Japan (and the rest of the world is aging), to get a feel how an older moves in a car, the designers at Nissan dons “aging suits” that limits movement and impair vision. Simple things like getting in and out of a car is studied closely to see hand angles, the spot a person pushes the door and such design is already incorporated in the new Fairlady Z and Nissan Cube.

So the next time you climb in a Nissan and everything feels so right, remember that thousands of hours went into the design. It is not just the shape, the engine and whatever else attracts the petrol heads that Nissan thinks about. They also think about the normal folks. Thumbs up to Nissan.
