Toyota Yaris 2009

Now that the economy is rather unstable, I decided to look for the least expensive car to own. Gas guzzlers are out of the question and you don’t need rocket science to figure out that one of the least expensive cars to drive over a 5 year period is a small car.

That is why the Toyota Yaris is so popular. It gets an estimated combined 31 mpg according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The five-year cost of owning the car is, on average, $33,831, which won’t break the bank, as far as long-term car expenses go.

It features electric power steering, 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System, with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)

The 2009 Yaris is equipped with a 106 hp 1.5-liter VVT-i four-cylinder engine. Spinning 4,200 rpm, it produces 103 lb-feet of torque. Five speed manual transmission is standard while a four-speed automatic transmission is optional.

The above model is the Liftback S with 18″ alloy wheels, TRD sport exhaust and TRD lowering springs, struts and shocks.

Safety level is good for a small car as all models will get antilock brakes, front-seat-mounted side airbags and rear curtain side airbags as standard equipment. This year, there will be a 5 door version since the younger set prefers a liftback model while still having the practicalities of 4 doors.

Curb weight 2340 lbs (1,510 kgs)
Overall width 66.7″
Overall length 150.6″
