The new Nissan Murano is here. Available from just under $27,000, the basic S model comes is equipped with a 3.5-liter 265 bhp V6 engine mated to Nissan’s Xtronic CVT.

The 2009 Murano is re-designed with a more aggresive front end and from some quarters, have some resemblance to the Rogue. I actually prefer the look of the first generation Murano.
It is fully loaded even for the base model. It comes standard with 18 inch alloy wheels, push button ignition, dual zone climate control and a 6-CD audio system. You can choose either intuitive All-Wheel Drive or just FWD.
For a $10,000 more (the top end model), you get 20 inch alloy wheels (and more expensive tires), HID xenon headlights, keyless entry and ignition system, power liftgate and Bose audio system. If that is still not enough gadgets on the go, there is an interface for your iPod, Bluetooth hands-free plus rear view camera.

My only gripe is Nissan has given the 2009 Murano 20 more horses under the hood. With fuel prices at the current level, I’d much prefer better fuel consumption. It’s not that you have many traffic light drags with a car weighing around 4,000 lbs. but you can since it can do 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds with a top speed 130mph.
The piece that is really missing is a diesel engine to go with it. Then, it might find more takers.
