With the economic situation today, where almost everyone wants to stretch their money to go a long way, I asked this question, “When should you change your tires?” I’ve too am in need of a new set of tires but was trying to squeeze the last out of a set for as long as possible since my Michelins still have sufficient thread.
This video from Fifth Gear might just change your mind to change it a little sooner. It might save you a lot more in terms of repair costs.
If you don’t know how tread wear indicators look like, here’s photo to show you. They are little rubber bumps in the channels in your tire. Once the tire wears down over time, the wear indicators will be the same height as the tread. This is the minimum legal amount of tread you can use the tire. Some owners change their tires before reaching the tread wear. Take note that even though it is legal to use the tire, the performance of the tire is reduced when there is water on the road compared to a tire with more tread.
