What can give 60 mpg, looks cute and you can buy right now? If you guessed the Smart fortwo, you are right on the dot.
Smart fortwo : – 3 smart fortwo were driven over a 4,400 km route on their way to the Detroit motor show. The fortwo CDI delivered 3.9 liters/100km (60.3 mpg US). For comparison, the fortwo micro hybrid drive (gas hybrid) recorded an average consumption of 4.8 litres per hundred kilometers (49 mpg US).

The Smart fortwo CDI features a 799cc engine that pushes out 33 kW (45 bhp) power with torque of 110 Nm (81 lb ft). How to squeeze so much out of so little? Common rail direct injection plus forced induction through a tiny 31 mm compact turbo charger that rotates up to 290,000 rpm and builds up to 1.15 bars!
Don’t expect any exciting levels of acceleration though.
