Nissan X-Trail 2.0
The 2008 Nissan X-Trail. Original owners liked the first X-TRAIL so much that they didn’t want any changes. Nissan listened to them but off course car design must continue to move on. The 2008 X-Trail is built on the success of the original. With that, the all-new X-TRAIL has a familiar look and feel.
The new X-TRAIL is slightly larger, longer and wider than before. Its wheelbase has increased by 5mm to 2630mm, overall length by 175mm to 4630mm. Much of the extra length ended up in the trunk area.
What’s new
• all-new chassis and body design
• 2 new powerful DPF-equipped diesels, with automatic diesel option for the first time
• true off-road credentials, with intelligent ALL MODE four-wheel drive system
• advanced hill start and descent controls
• enhance interior space, there is the innovative double deck trunk
• better on-road performance and comfort
Nissan did a fabulous job redesigning the backend but some thought the front with its big headlights, is simply ugly. The latest X-TRAIL shares the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai. It features strut-type suspension at the front with a multi-link system at the rear.
The biggest change of course is to the drive train. It now incorporates the more intelligent version of Nissan’s four wheel drive system, called the ALL MODE 4×4i!Entry level ST model gets a more basic form while the ST-L and Ti models get added electronic intelligence, making the new X-Trail similar off-road potential as the Pathfinder and Patrol. The only difference being the lower ground clearance of the X-Trail. Think of it as a younger gentler family member.
The ALL MODE 4×4i makes the X-Trail a genuine off-roader. While most other SUV focus more on on-road capabilities, the X-Trail is truly a multi-talented car. This is the original appeal, for those who want a comfortable on road car with enough guts to take it off-road.
