Update
Test drive of the new Proton Saga reveals these things.
The new Campro engine felt pretty much like a 1.3-litre engine. Good acceleration at the low end. Noise level a bit intrusive at high revs. Manual shift feels rubbery and imprecise. Steering responded well to inputs but feel could be better. Trunk space is very good (as with all Protons). No grab handles for rear passengers except for high end model. Build quality – so so. Interior space is good and seats are well placed. Off course everyone knows by now, the rear manual window winders.
Real cons – underpowered when going up steep hills.
Remain to be seen – Build quality

The Campro engine has a lousy torque. Hopefully with the new intake, it should improve this. For the price, I think it is good value. Let’s see how the build quality is once the car is used for a few months.
I’ll never buy another Proton. Have been faithful M’sian but the Proton have disappointed me so many times, I give up.
Buying a used Japanese car is many time better. Unless you want to be best buddies with your SA!
