Chipped Windscreen

Having a chipped windscreen can really ruined a car owners enjoyment. If you don’t fix the damaged windscreen, it will only get worst. Replacing a windscreen is usually an expensive and time consuming exercise. While a chipped windscreen might seem like a small damage, some car owners realized too late that leaving it alone, will eventually require you to replace the whole windscreen. If you don’t repair the damaged windscreen, dirt will slowly work itself into the gap between the laminate and the chip will grow into a crack. If the chip is located where there is stress, the chip will grow fairly fast.

What should you do if you have a chipped windscreen? Have a professional take a look at it. Although you may be tempted to repair it yourself, I don’t recommend it because some types of chip windscreen cannot be repaired safely. It may be repaired temporarily but over time when the windscreen is heated and cooled repeatedly, the windscreen will fail. A professional windscreen repair can tell if your windscreen can be repaired. If it can be repaired, they have the skills and tools to do a good job. You will probably not notice the previous damage after the windscreen has been repaired.

If you attempt to do it yourself and don’t do a good job, the chipped part may annoy you at best and at worst impair your vision if the damage is in the line of sight while you are driving.
