Let’s face it. Cars are getting more sophisticated, read expensive. While the basic car prices are affordable, car manufacturers and dealer make more selling accessories. People get into a buying “mode”. Sales people know once you have decided to buy a new car, it is fairly easy to get you to sign up for options that pad the commission. In sales lingo, it is called up-sell. That’s what they do at McD, at Burger King etc.
List of items you might want to put off for now till prices drop further:
1. Sat Navigation. Built in units sure look good. But how often you use it. If you really want to play with a GPS, get a portable handheld unit like Garmin or have it installed out side.
2. Night Vision. This is a useful gadget to have if you are driving in the dark at high speeds. Speeds that you should not be doing at night. Unless you are a spy or something. Wait a while for prices to drop. Put the money into more car.
3. Run flat tires. Expensive to replace, harsher ride. Might be good for ladies who often drive at night for safety reason. You don’t have to get down to change a flat. Cheaper alternative? A can of tire fix-it.
4. Keyless Go. Don’t be lazy. All you need is to press the remote. Again, unless you are a spy or something, and need a get-a-way car in a hurry. Trouble starts when you lose the key or it gets dunked in the washing machine. At the moment, it cost big bucks to replace.
5. Reverse cameras. I remember seeing ultrasonic reverse sensor ages ago in a documentary. When they first came out, again it cost a bomb. Now it is so cheap. Now that you have reverse sensor, why need reverse cameras? Unless you drive a huge truck.
